Most moles are harmless, but some change over time, and some just get in the way — catching on a bra strap, a collar or a razor. Mole removal in Springville, UT takes care of both: suspicious moles are removed and tested, and bothersome moles are removed cleanly.
The procedure is quick, done under local numbing, and happens right in our office, often at your first visit.
When You Need Mole Removal
Have a mole checked when it shows any of the ABCDE warning signs: Asymmetry, an uneven Border, more than one Color, a Diameter larger than a pencil eraser, or Evolving — changing in size, shape or color. A mole that itches, bleeds or looks different from your others should also be seen.
Many people also remove moles that are raised and get irritated by clothing or shaving, or that they simply don’t like the look of. If a mole is changing, don’t wait. Melanoma can start in an existing mole, and catching it early makes treatment simpler.
If you have a lot of moles, a family history of melanoma, or you burned easily as a child, regular skin checks are a good habit even when nothing seems wrong.
Our Mole Removal Process
Your provider examines the mole, often with a dermatoscope — a lighted magnifier that shows structures below the surface. If it looks suspicious, it is removed and sent for testing.
The area is numbed with a small injection. Raised moles can often be shaved flush with the skin; moles that need full testing are removed with a small excision and closed with a few stitches. Either way, the procedure is usually well under an hour.
Every mole we remove for medical reasons is examined in our own dermatopathology lab, and we will contact you with the result. Healing takes a few weeks depending on the method.
Keep the area clean and covered for the first few days, and apply petroleum jelly to help it heal with a smaller mark. Shave removals leave a flat, pink spot that fades over months; excisions leave a fine line. If a mole you had removed ever starts to grow back with dark color, let us know. And if you have many moles, a yearly full-skin check helps catch any changes early.
Mole Removal Cost in Springville
When a mole is removed because it is suspicious, irritated or bleeding, removal and testing are usually billed to health insurance. Removing a harmless mole for cosmetic reasons is typically self-pay. Your provider will tell you which applies and the cost before the procedure.
