Not every skin problem needs a trip to the office. Dermatology telehealth in Utah lets you talk to one of our providers by video from home, work or wherever you are — useful when you live far from an office, have a busy schedule or just need a quick follow-up.
Telehealth is available for patients of all four of our offices: Springville, Provo, Tooele and St. George. Visits happen on your iPhone or Android phone through the PocketPatient app.
When a Telehealth Visit Makes Sense
Video visits work well for acne and rosacea check-ins, rashes and eczema flares, follow-ups after starting a new medicine, reviewing biopsy results, prescription refills, and questions about whether a concern needs an in-person visit.
Some things need to be seen in person: a full-body skin cancer check, a mole that needs a close look with a dermatoscope, biopsies, procedures and cosmetic treatments. If your provider decides in-person care is needed, we will help you book it at the nearest office.
Telehealth is especially useful for patients in rural Utah County, Tooele Valley and Washington County, where a round trip to an office can take a big piece of the day. It also helps college students, parents juggling kids’ schedules, and anyone recovering from a procedure who doesn’t want to drive in for a quick check. Video follow-ups also save time off work for a five-minute medication check.
How Our Telehealth Visits Work
Call any of our offices to schedule a telehealth visit, or ask for one when you call about a same-day appointment. You will get instructions to download the PocketPatient app on your iPhone or Android device.
At visit time, find a well-lit spot — daylight near a window is best — and join the video call. Your provider can ask you to show the area of concern up close. You will talk through symptoms and treatment just as you would in the office, and prescriptions can be sent straight to your pharmacy.
Telehealth lets you skip the waiting room, and it reduces exposure to colds and flu for you and other patients.
To get the most out of a video visit, take clear photos of the area beforehand in good light, write down when the problem started and what you have tried, and have your medicine list and pharmacy information ready. Use a quiet, private spot with a steady internet connection. If something about the visit doesn’t work on video, your provider will set up an in-person appointment.
Telehealth Visit Cost
Telehealth dermatology visits are usually billed to health insurance like an office visit, though coverage varies by plan. Our front desk can help you check your benefits when you schedule.
Why Choose Us
Our telehealth visits are with the same dermatology team you would see in person, led by Dr. Michael Peterson, a board-certified dermatologist and dermatopathologist. If you need to come in, you have four Utah offices to choose from, with same-day appointments available. Daily Herald readers voted us first in the Best of Utah Valley from 2019 through 2023.
